Just wanted to check on you guys - I heard on the news Oregon set record temps yesterday of 106. WOW! You'd think you guys were down here in the South. However we've had not so hot temps this summer, lower than normal anyway! Still gets in the 90's but we havent hit 100's yet which is abnormal. Hope all you guys are ok up there

Thanks Angel. It is flippin' HOT up here! We aren't used to this kind of heat. It reached 110 at my house yesterday afternoon. Yuk. And it is rather humid to boot. This morning it is still 85 inside my house. My Mom is at her place down at the ocean and it got to 90 there which is very unusual, but at least it cooled off to 60-something last night for her. She is 80 years old, so she will stay there til the heat passes up here.

110?? WOWZER I heard most of the stores have sold out of fans and a/c units. I hope your mom is ok - does she have a/c? I think the older people really suffer more in temps like this. How are your horse's doing? I bet they are lathargic from the heat. Stay cool and wet if you can

Yes, very hot here. My girls are supposed to be getting ready for fair; a little showmanship practice yesterday and they called it good! Our horses are fine; they have shade, but i think the bugs must be fewer out in the sun, as they often stand out in the sun rather than their shade. I hosed off Stella yesterday evening, and went to get the scraper to scrape off the excess (I just learned that here from one of you!) but when I got back it was evaporating so fast there was almost no water to scrape off! We had huge black thunder clouds last night but it never did rain. We have a few more days of this heat, then it should go down. Kim, I am glad your mom is out at the ocean! Lil

It is hot here but has not reached 100' yet. Right now is our County Fair and it is always hot that weekend, but it has been hot for weeks it seems. We are used to the heat and the horses like the sprinkler everyday, we have ice blocks for the rabbit cages. I run around changing sprinklers on my yards and gardens were the hubby has yet to add automatic systems. There is A/C in the house but I don't like it to chilly, I think it is better to acclimate then go from one extreme temp' to another, back and forth. I never complain when it is hot, because I hate when it is really cold. But if it would drop just 15 degrees, I could get back in the saddle riding more often. I miss my afternoon trail rides and now the only time to ride is after dinner.

It was 107 here Tuesday and Wednesday. Today it was a lot cooler. 96 ;D The horses seemed fine, I gave thme cool water every evening and we had a breeze blowing. I locked my dogs and cats in the house and wouldn't let them out. We don't have a/c but our house stays vairly cool.

I've been glad that the horses have 12 acres, they can find the best breeze and shade. Flies are simply awful though. I've been at the library between 3-5PM the last few days. It was 104 at the house and 108 at the pasture yesterday, so it got hotter than we've ever seen by a lot. Very few people have air-conditioning. We don't and we've been sleeping in the tent in the back yard at night. Glad its on its way out....I hope.

We finally got some lightning and thunder, with big dark clouds that just spit at us, but it did drop the temps' yesterday.

Hit 100 here. Humidity was the real killer, though. Turned the sprinkler on and had the horses pinned in their stalls as it sprayed them down. They didn't want showers, but they were dripping with sweat just standing in the shade Thankfully it's much cooler today!

We had WILD thunder and lightning storms last Sat. and Sun. with tons of rain pouring down on us. Every night sense some sneaky dark clouds in the evening but no action. The tempratures are cooling down and they say by Friday just mid' 70's for us here. I tolds my husband as soon as we set up the big swimming pool (which we did ) it will cool down and we won't get to use it. Oh well at least I will be able to get back to afternoon trailriding.
