Okay folks. All over this board are many different Breed Standards (BS). What would you change in the Kiger BS, like to see, get rid of, etc if you were to choose a BS? Even if you don't want to put a full one together, what are aspects you would like to see or not see?
If you want to post picts of a Kiger with a good neck, nice back, terrific hip - Please do so!

I was thinking of starting a topic like this, too. Glad to see you did. Cracking me up to call it BS, though! ;D Okay, since the Kiger is supposedly Spanish, I'd like to see them resemble the Spanish horses. I don't want to see tiny, dishy Arab heads, but rather a nice, noble face, even a bit romanesque. Smooth muscled, short backs (FC's back is way too long for my taste, and I saw a lot of others that were long backed), weight proportional to the height. I'm having a hard time finding shoulder descriptions in the links I've looked at thus far. Judging from what I saw at the adoption, straight shoulders are what's out there. Does this mirror the Spanish horses? My mind envisions big shoulders with good angle, not the straight stuff I was seeing. Good legs and feet. I know someone mentioned cowhocked here somewhere. Every mustang I've seen is slightly cowhocked, and I think they've survived pretty well with that trait, so hocks a bit narrow, but not necessarily pointing towards each other, may be good. What's the size range? 13.2 -15 hands? Sounds good to me. The older I get, the harder I find it to climb on anything taller than that. I'd limit color...dun factor only. (I know, Fantasy! I love gray horses, too.) I think it's okay to be selective and breed for color. The off colored horses don't sell anyway (just look at Rick's freebies), so there's no reason to purposely breed for what may end up in the slaughter lines of Mexico when the next owner doesn't care anymore. These two boys would be accepted into my registry, because I think they're pretty... ;D Especially this one! And this pretty mare: (It's okay to accept them, because I found them at Beatty's Butte! )

let me see I would like to see more of the look of Riddle, color should not be a factor, if a horse meets the look of the original Kigers, but lets say are gray, or have allot of white it is ok. As long as they are a Kiger by DNA or their parents were and it is proven. Even 1/2 Kigers should be allowed. I really do not know what they are looking for in DNA but i would like to know if the DNA from SMK and Riddle Mtn range and those found in other areas are the same will the other area horses be considered a Kiger or what? this is Riddle and he has a good face and what I want.. even a better face Nice from the side stormy face stormy from the side I hope this is what you mean to me these two are Kiger nola

Hard to tell from the angle of the pict, but Riddle looks like he has a super straight back, which is soooo needed in the breed!

Great shoulder layback, strong loins and back.... appropriate length. A balanced head, neck, body. A head that ties in smoothly and properly to allow great flex and carriage. A neck that ties is smoothly and correctly to the body allowing for proper carriage and collection. Flat bone. Good angles and proper length of bone to allow for an animal that can move without jarring. Nice long muscling but not muscle bound. A forequarter and hindquarter that is neither heavy nor too light. Great feet with good heels and proper angles. A horse that moves lively, but doesn't wing, paddle, or counterfire. A mind that is willing, alert but not super sensitive or dull. Jillian

On the head I like to see a straight profile a large soft kind eye, small hooked ears wide forehead, good size jowl angling down to a nice tapered muzzle with medium sized nostrils. I like my neck to be of good length yet thick the base level with the point of the shoulder, the shoulder to have a nice slope. I like to see withers and straight short back with well sprung ribs. I also like a full chest and smooth muscle. Straight clean legs with solid bone leaning more towards the heavy side then the light. Upright mule type hooves of soid contruction. I agree the ideal color would be a dun horse with loads of dun factor leg stripes shoulder bars cobwebbing and bicolor mane and tail. There should also be lots of mane and tail and some fetlock hair.Temperment should be curious, friendly, definate propensity to be a pocket pony, willing to please. I don't know that I have seen one horse that has everything but I have seen horses that I think have several of the qualities I like and look for. I hate to go around snagging others pics' without permission. I believe my 2 have some of those qualities as well.

Cute picture, I love your area, I just can't deal with heavy snow and cold. My asthma hates it.

i guess we all have our own idea of what it is. but one day maybe we will know what is the perfect Kiger. I feel I have it and will have it even better between mt two when I breed. But that is my opinion. All of the horse's I have seen here and in other board rooms are good looking. So only we owners know what we personally want, and will work towards that goal. nola
