These pictures are of Firefly and I on a first ride in literally seven or eight months with a saddle on. I sold my old saddle because I couldn't lift it very high without seeing stars. This is a very light weight synthetic saddle that does the job just fine. All I have on her is a saddle, halter and clip on reins. We have some video of her walking over some railroad ties and such too, but hubby wants to save those until we can get a better conversion program so they don't get so fuzzy and washed out. Firefly got no workout or anything before this, I just put the blanket and saddle on her and got on and rode. The stirrups obviously need to be adjusted but since it was a short ride, I didn't worry about it.   |

Thats amazing! she looks very calm and obviously trust you. How did it feel to be riding in a saddle again??

It felt good, especially since I didn't see stars getting it up onto her back. I love that girl so much and we share so much together that this has been a missing part. I purchased a hanger, bosal and the moste beautiful horsehair mecate I've ever seen and I'm going to learn more about how to use it before I go about working with her with it. I want to have my knowledge in place before I slip it over her head. She and I have a wonderful bond and she can read me pretty well. I had a little apprehension about the saddle when I was getting on and she could tell. She stood there not wanting to move, just listening to me. When she decided that I was settled and the apprehension was gone, she moved out and we went on our ride. Sometimes I can't believe I have this girl, I look out my window as she's eating and she brings tears to my eyes. I'm so very fortunate to have such a wonderful horsey soul in my life.

It is so good to see you guys riding together  I am so glad you found a saddle that is easy for you to lift and use with Firefly I can not wait to see the new bosal as well. |
