My friend Stephanie bought my horse Little Kiger Creek last may. She has been really enjoying him. Here is what she wrote.
Hi Kevin and Lisa,
I was finally able to do a ride this year. The last one of the season. All I have to say is that I absolutely LOVE Creek. We did a difficult 30 miler. We did the Lake Oroville Vista Endurance Ride. The amount of obsticale such as crossing dams, train tracks after a train has just gone by, residential areas to very rocky single track to no trail at all just looking for flags up a 780 ft gain at the 25 mile mark only to have the vet check at the top of the hill. I rode alone and with people, we walked and trotted. He was perfect. I took it very easy on him since I knew he wasn't in the best of shape. I found out what the cut off times were for each vet check and paced myself accordinly. It worked. We came in to the finish line with only 15 minutes to spare. But I was not the last place person. His pulse and heart rate recovery just astounded me with how fast it came down. The next day, I thought he would look like I had over rode my horse. He was trotting around and ready for more.
Before the race, I have also trailered him and Allen's horse Cairo down to California to ride the old trails I used to ride 10 years ago with some friends. We had a great time. I didn't quite remember the trails being so steep, but Creek had no problems keeping up. When we got back to the stables we were staying at, they were having a trail course. Everyone was practicing. I decided to do it too. Creek and I had a great time together again.
He has just been impressing me more and more. I just love the little guy. Here are pictures of him on the Oroville Ride.
