Thanks everyone for the kind words. YES!!!!!!! There will be more pictures. Hopefully as things get a bit greener here and the babies fluff out a bit more I will have better pics to post. Both babies are by Doc Holiday our red dun stallion by Silverado and out of the Tracy mare. Doc throws a much sweeter mind and outgoing personality than Shelby and I am liking it more and more every day!!! Shelby's foals have that great compact, well balanced conformation but tend to be thinkers first and in your pocket ponies later. They also express a bit more bravado and independance. Now if I could only figure out a way to get Shelbys compact conformation and Doc's sweet nature all in one stallion, I would have it made. LOL!!!! edited to add.... I finally figured out how to manipulate my virus protection program. LOL!!!! Here is a pic of Kizzy with her new filly at 8 hours old. It's hard to tell but I am thinking that this little girl could be a red dun.

Can't open the first few picts, but in the last one the filly looks like a dun. Red duns cannot have black in the mane/tail. Desi is red dun with the sooty gene and his tail can appear to have black hairs but when you hold them against a real black horses' tail hairs, they are clearly dark dark red. None of the red duns we have had had any dark hairs in the tail when they were young.
You should hold back fillies from Shelby and breed them to Doc to see if you could get the best of both!!

Thanks Michelle, I was thinking about the same thing. We have only one filly this year from Doc (Kizzie's filly) [the other is a partial blood colt] but I am hoping to rebreed her to Doc for next year. As Kizzy's filly is from the Silverado/Steens lines and Shelby is from the Bucky lines, I think I should be alright. It will be interesting to see what I get from this filly bred back to Shelby. We know he carries the red gene as he has produced two red dun sabino Arab Kiger crosses. The mare throws in the Sabino and he contributes the red dun. With that information in mind, what would be the chances of a red dun from a Shelby/Kizzy filly cross? I really really need to find a name for her!!!! The Doc/Fuzzy colt has been named Buckshot.

If this filly is by a red dun, then she will have one red gene for sure; plus obviously black and agouti (for bay/dun). Since Shelby carries the recessive red also, then you do have a chance. Heres' your percentages:
56.25% - Zebra Dun 25.00% - Red Dun 18.75% - Grullo
The only factor would be if Kizzy has two agouti genes (homozygous for bay), then you would not get a grullo and your chances for a Dun would be higher. For a better chance at a red dun, you would have to hold back a red dun filly from Doc to put to Shelby, then you would have over a 50% chance.

Thanks Michelle, I am going to have to do some testing. I am curious to know what Kizzy has to offer. Doc is out of a red dun (Ginger) out of a red dun from the wild (Tracy) His sire is a grullo out of a dun by a Grullo

Do you have pictures of Tracy or the grandparents? Is Tracy one of Rick's horses?

Yes, Tracy is from the wild and is one of Ricks brood mares. Her registered name is “Tracy’s Dun, she is from the RHMA and her BLM # is 91009043. Her SMKR # is MSMR083. I do recall having a picture of Ginger at 1 day old with her mother but will have to look for it. I lost a lot of stuff when the old computer died but may have been lucky enough to save it in the archives. I will try to find it this week sometime. I also have pictures of Gingers sire line. Her sire was Steens Kiger Silverado by Steens Kiger out of Mestena. I have pics of Silverado and Steens Kiger but none of Mestena. Shelby is out of Kiger Cispa (KHMA) and by Nieto De Sombre (Shadow) who was owned by the Clay Bank Ranch. Shadow is by Kiger Don Sombre (Wild). Rubie is by Steens Kiger (RHMA) and out of Kiger Little Minor. (RHMA). I don't have any pictures of Rubie or Kiger Little Minor. Edited to add........ Here is a picture of Ginger at 1 day old. Unfortunately I only have her mothers hind legs in the picture. Here she is at 1 yr old (first winter here in Canada) Here she is at 2 years old (Her first summer in Canada.)

I believe I still have a picture of Mestena who is also Fantasy's grand dam, somewhere in my horse pictures. I took long ago on a visit to Rick's, when I took pics of Charro'. If you would like Kelly I can scan it and post it so you can copy and put back on your computer.
What a change up on Ginger she sure kept you guessing on her final outlook, she is such a pretty mare.

Tiffany, I would love a picture of Mestena. Kizzy goes back to her on the sire side and I would love it for her picture pedigree. Thank you so much!!!!
