"What changes would you suggest for this type of situation" move....change address..... tee hee! atleast the food won't spoil - just become freeze dried.
Believe me when I say I have thought about it but then I would have to move State side and we ALL KNOW there are plenty of Kiger Registries in the US already. LOL!!!! Chipping away at all those frozen troughs is for the birds, not to mention what happens to grain with molasses in it at -30. Can you say concrete? LOL!!!! When is the last time YOU needed a hammer and chisel to feed grain?

"When is the last time YOU needed a hammer and chisel to feed grain? "
That would be when I lived in Chicago!!!! Don't miss it one bit!
Seriously, we added more barley to the mix in Winter - 10% more like 60% oats and 40% barley. Also fed a higher amount of the mix when needed for added calories.

Thanks Michelle. I look forward to seeing how well my Kigers do on this mix. One more question..... Is this diet designed for Spanish/Kiger breeds or would you recommend it for the nonSpanish, more domesticated breeds like Q-Horses, Arabs, Hackneys or Walkers? I have one Arab/Kiger cross and one Hackney/Kiger cross. Also there is a Morgan/Kiger cross that is owned by a lady who crossed Shelby to her mare. Would this feeding program do well for them or would it have to be modified?

This is a very good diet for the "easy keeper type" and those more likely to have EMS issues. My fillies by Hipo (the Veiga stallion) seem to need more protein, so they tend to get a little higher amount plus a flake of alfalfa a day. This would be what I would figure for more of the thoroughbred types to. If you have a QH with alot of thoroughbred, you may have to go this route too. Also, a higher percentage of the barley than the oats for more keeping weight.
