Just finally got to this thread....great to see that Duke is doing better. Good thing they are survivors, he'll make it fine. When we bred that Thoroughbred mare a few years back, she had a nice filly, Bella Rosa. When the filly was only a few weeks old, the electric company came by and drove some big trucks behind the barn and proceeded to lift up the buckets to the high wires. The mare and foal where right next to it all and by the time I got back there to move her or stop them, the filly was laying flat out with a concusion. That freak mare must have knocked her down. When she got up, she was blind for 10 days, had some swelling over her right eye and a head tilt. She was at the vet for two weeks until her sight was back and the head tilt was better. It took a month before the tilt went away completely...
Just give it time, as long as he is eating and his spirits are good I am sure he'll be fine! Now getting him back into the training pen might be another story!!!

Oh, I would have had more than just a word with the electric company. I would hope they paid your vet bills! The idiots should have been smart enough to see that they were freaking the horses out, even if they weren't smart enough to see the possibility of freaking them out before they even started.

Duke is doing much better! He still has a slight head tilt, but is better each day. He is still SOOO flighty, we need to give him more time to settle down.

Glad to hear Duke is better - do you have a certain amount of time to get him gentled or is at your leisure? He is surely in good hands with you and Kevin!

The Mustang Heritage foundation has given us more time with Duke because of his injury. Normally we have 90 days with them.

I was wondering about that. He would be at such an extreme disadvantage otherwise.

Well, we are not riding the boys. We have left Duke completely alone so he could heal all the way. His head tilt is just about gone for the most part. It only shows when he is scared. Dunbar the second boy is doing great for as much time as we have put into him. We moved the first of June, so we didn't do anything with him for about 2 weeks. He is leading good and has been sacked out. We hope to at least have him under saddle by the wild trails horse expo July 26th. That is where the T.I.P. horses can be adopted. wildtrailshorseexpo.blogspot.com/We won't be taking Duke. I need to get some pictures, hopefully today.

You have a park horse there I used to ride a palamino that was a park horse and she would naturally stop and stand like that, it was strange to me

What a stance he has!! There will be Kigers with the two trainers for the Mustang Show July 25/26. We should see my stallion under saddle and I will have a mare there also. We will be in the Trail in Hand and the "Just getting started" classes so he can get the exposure. I am not required to use a stallion chain as long as he is under control which is good as he is more energized when I try to use one. He doesn't like the thing on his nose; head tossing and foot stomping are his reactions. He is easy at home, but has only been in one arena in his life at a clinic so we may do more "look Mom" than obstacles but we'll try. He has way more curiosity than fear of new things so he will have lots to watch. Glad to hear you will be there Tiffany. I want to meet your horses after hearing so much about them and seeing all the pictures you post. Anyone else besides Kevin and Lisa coming?
