Next Friday, Kevin and I are going to Burns to get two wild ones. We are participating in the Mustang Heritage Foundations Trainer Incentive Program. That is were we have 90 days to find an adopter for the horses and if we find a home for them we get $700 for each horse. We can take up to 4 horses at a time. We will be taking these horses to a Mustang show in July and there will be a wild horse adoption there. So that should make it easier to find homes for them. The best part is we get to choose the horses ourselves. They have to be Bay, Brown or Black, as these are the least adoptable ones. I wil be continuing our blog about these horses. You can see it at: mustanggentling.blogspot.com/

During those 90 days, do you train the horses to make them more desirable for adoption?

We picked up our two T.I.P. Horses today. We have 78 days to get them ready for the mustang show July 25th. They will be available for adoption at this show. We will also be showing them at the Pacific Wild Horse Club show July 18th and 19th in McMinnville. We first looked at a few mares and had one picked out. She was built really nice. We had them put her aside so we could look at the geldings next. They brought the geldings in and Kevin had one picked out right away. Tom the Manager of the corrals pointed out another nice guy to us, and we said, “We’ll take that one for sure.” We had to decide on the gelding that Kevin picked out and the mare he picked out. It was a tough decision but, we eventually went with the gelding. Kevin said if we got the mare he would end up keeping her. This gelding is a three year old from Sheepshead herd management area. This gelding is also a three year old from Coyote Lake/Alvord Tule HMA. They brought the boys into the shoots and trimmed their feet and wormed them for us. That was a bonus! The boys were really well behave in the shoots, but when it came time to halter them neither one of them were having any of it. Finally the halters were on and we loaded and headed for home.

Both very good looking boys, I especially like the face on the second one. I'm sure they will be adopted in no time after you're finished with them

This is when the mares were brought into the pens for us to look at. Most of them were pregnant, so we couldn't take them home for training.

What lucky mustangs to have the good fortune to have you to train them. They are both very, very nice! I too like the Sheepshead gelding. Looking forward to seeing them come along. Linda D

So that first picture is the mare...WOW she is nice. I can see just from her view from behind, she is bult like my kind of Mustang the first thing I look at are legs. I can't see her face that would be second. I like the sheepshead gelding, he reminds me alot of my my Mustang mare Salsa in younger days. Kudoos to you guys for doing this, I really think Mustangs are great.

Here is another picture of the mare for you. We may have to go back and get her! Duke (the sheepshead gelding we ALL like so much) has had an accident. The day after we got home Kevin was in the pen with him (he is so scared he just shakes so bad) he tried to get away from Kevin. He ran up to the fence, reared up and fellow over backwords hitting his head. He had convulsions and couldn't get up right away. When he did get up he couldn't get his balance and fell over again. He was really wobbley for about an hour. He has been on his feet for two days, but is still wobbley. He hit above his eye about on the temple, (I did the same thing when I was twelve when I came off a horse and landed on a stump. I had a bad concusion.) We talked to BLM and they said to give it a week and if he doesn't get better to bring him back. They said to give him Bannamine. I have been praying to God to help him get better. He is such a nice horse. He is not as afraid of me as he is of Kevin. I was the one to give him his Banamine. Kevin as ALWAYS been the one to gentle the wild ones, as I can't go into the pen and show no fear. Duke was charging at Kevin that first day, and Kevin said, "I need and escape route." I said, "just stand up to him," HA HA! iT WASN'T ME IN THERE. It worked though. He quit charging. We have only had one other horse do that and he was a stallion. Anyway, We put Dino in with him last night to try and keep him calm while we gave him Banamine. It worked. I was able to scratch his forhead and get it in his mouth. I then preceeded to scratch him all over his face and neck. I think he likes me. I told Kevin maybe he will be the first horse I gentle from the beginning. I was afraid of Dino when we first got him. After they are gentled I am not afraid of them. Go firgure? We will keep you posted on his recovery. Lisa
