Ever heard of using a sulfur based ointment massaged into the roots to help the mane, tail and forelock grow? The claim is, that the sulfer encourages/promotes faster healthier growth. As in three to four inches of new growth per month. Also it was said that this same formula can be used on dogs and even on people to grow hair back where bald spots have shown up.

I would LOVE to hear of this really works! In our climate, where it is damp and cool three fourths of the year, some of our horses react to the bugs by rubbing against trees and such. I have a couple whose mains could use some encouragement to grow!

Okay, here's a little about the sulfur. If you are going to mix your own, the powder you need to find is called precipitated sulfer, sublimed sulfer, brimstone, flowers of sulfer or milk of sulfur. It says be very careful to get 100% precipitated sulfur if you will be mixing your own ointment. You'll be mixing it with lanolin or petrolium base such as vaseline or castor oil will work, etc. undilluted powder is very strong and will burn your skin. Two acceptable products are listed, one called Pomada De Azufre (made for acne) and Sulfer 10% (made for infections, fungus, spots, acne, etc.) You can also ask your pharmacist for Sulfer ointment 5%, If you get the 10% dilute it down some with one of the above mentioned products.
This product can be used on people too it states. On horses, you rub it into the roots of the mane and roots of the tail, you don't need to rub it into all the hair. It should be applied once a week for two to three weeks, then wash it out and reapply. Wash it out every three weeks and reapply every week. Okay, that's it for now.
