Hey everybody. I am in the Western States EMM contest. I picked my BLM mustang up last Friday at the Litchfield corrals and we compete at the Western States Horse Expo June 12-14 in Sacramento CA. Check out my blog for her at: www.imayourhorse.blogspot.com or my facebook page at Susan L. Watkins. or my website at www.kigersdeloscalifornios.com. Stay tuned for the action and cheer me on. She's a winner! The only way she could be better is if she were a Kiger!! LOL OBTW: I have 3 kigers for sale all registered with the KMA. 2.5 yr gelding, 2 yr gelding and 4 yr mare

How exciting Sue. I was at the Road to the Horse this past weekend and bought an Extreme Mustang Makeover T-shirt and they gave me a free dvd of the 1st EMM and it was so good. I was crying because most of the trainer's had gotten so attached to there mustang, it was so hard to part with them at the end. Most took them back home with them. I'll be keeping an eye on your blog. It's such a rewarding experiece. Good Luck to you!!

Good luck, Sue! Western States is a great Expo with tons of people and good weather. We packed in more people there last year than the Magnificent 7...so be prepared to get IMA some exposure to huge crowds and a lot of noise so she doesn't get stage fright!

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone! ;D Ima is doing wonderful. She is a gem. I was ready to ride her at day 15 but had to go out of town ( Went to a Californios Roping Clinic to perfect my Houlihan) so her first ride was at day 21. She took it all in stride. She has no buck in her but is very sticky and so far I rarely get her to canter. Today we had 50 MPH wind gusts so I opted not to ride. (Yes mom, I am getting smarter). We worked on in hand work, trail obstacles and beginning tricks. I have never seen a kinder horse. My friend Ronnie and "Nevada Lil" are competing at the Gatorland MMO in FL this weekend so cheer them on. Want to promote 2 of my sponsors Bar Ale Feed and Elk Grove Milling are sponsoring all of Ima Your Horse's feed, you should give it to your horses also If anyone has any brilliant ideas for my freestyle please email me, I need all the help I can get! Follow Ima at her blog, on facebook and my website: www.kigersdeloscalifornios.com

Never anything wrong with giving them a bit more time to absorb things from the ground. Steve Holt! was something like day 27, but Sandy was close to 50 before I got on him. Both of them were pretty much on the same page by the time competition rolled around. Biggest mistake I see is people rushing...had a trainer tell me if he did this again, he wouldn't be in such a hurry. You don't want brain fry

Sue, I was a spectator at the Pacific Northwest EMM a couple weeks ago. One of the judges was a reining guy, and the horses who did a reining pattern in their freestyle got the higher scores. Horses that looked like they were being prepared for a western pleasure class made the top ten, but not the top three. So I would suggest you research your judges, and find out what they like to do and judge, and then plan your freestyle towards that. Hope that helps, and GOOD LUCK! Lil

Everything is going awesome!!! ;D At least on the horse's side. I have a real problem horse (of course NOT a mustang) in for training that I have had 2 wrecks with. And then alot of personal health issues that has curtailed my riding for the last 2 weeks. And it will only be light riding for the next 3 or 4. So her training is at a stand still. What she knows now will probably be all she knows for the contest next month. Ima is the best little horse in the world and I pray everyday someone worthy adopts her on June 12. She is just super, great transitions, forward attitude She has a super drop her butt in the ground stop, starting to jump about 2' fences. Can rope and drag stuff. trail obstacles are a dream. And runs to greet you in her pen. Please check out she blog at www.imayourhorse.blogspot.comShe and I are leaving in the morning for the Napa Mustang Days event in Napa CA. We will carry the flag in the opening ceremony and I am one of the guest clinicians. There is a BLM adoption plus lots of fun stuff. Check it out at www.napamustangdays.com Please come if you are in the area. I have entered a very nice 5 yr old KMA registered Mare is the Select Sale at the Western States Horse Expo Sale which is on June 14 same place the EMM contest will be. They usually only accept registered AQHA and APHA horses. Last year I talked them into letting me enter a registered Kiger. She was the top selling yearling. So this year they called and invited me to enter a Kiger! So Colorada con Brio KCA will be let go to the highest bidder. If you are looking for a very pretty, broke, registered Kiger here she is. Email me for pics. Hope everyone has a horse in their life, as they are the greatest teacher.

Ouch, Sue...so sorry to hear you've had such a rough time of it. That's the trouble with starting other horses alongside your competition horse; you never know when someone's gonna blow on you.
You're saying the same prayer we all say before heading off to Expo with our babies! It's the hardest thing ever. At least with Steve Holt! I'd been pretty sure I'd have enough money. With Sandy, we had $1000, and that's exactly what we were bid up to...and the darned horse was lame at that! It's very difficult to think of these horses in the wrong hands when we let them go.

I spent the whole day today at the extreme mustang makeover in Norco. Boy! what a fun time that was. I'm going to be going back tomorrow. I just got home and I'm dead tired. I took lots of pictures that I will work on posting Sunday. I'm not going back for the actual adoption on Sunday because I can't adopt any of the very wonderful horses that were exhibited. I spent the day with a husband and wife team that photograph and write for Equestrian Magazine. They're going to shoot me some of their pictures when they get a chance also. What a fun event filled with some really great people!
