He could look at a horse and see exactly what it needed and where it had been. He could look at one of his students and read exactly what it took to motivate them to get them to reach inside themselves and move on to the place they needed to be. That might take the form of gentle encouragment to get you to believe beyond where you thought capable or it might take the form of pissing you off so that you'd get enough fight up to go ahead and do it. Whatever form it took it was always the right thing for that given situation.
