I love his face as he's laying down, he actually looks like he plans on enjoying it!

Yeah, he actually would lay down and not get up! He was such a ham! I would stand behind him and tell him to get up or worse yet, stand over him so I would be on him when he got up and he would just turn his head and look at me like "no way! I'm just gonna have to do some other stupid thing for you!". He would get everyone laughing and that is what he wanted anyway!

I love you putting up pictures and all but it's making me miss you! And all the horses and their senses of humor. I want to come back to Texas!!!

Michelle, do you know if there would be any of these saddles for sale that are used?

We had two gals buy them this past October and one was used by the supplier. I do not belive they have any more, but you sure can contact them and see. They needed to order some more from Spain if I remember correctly. All the folks I know would not part with them for nothen'! I let a roper ride Desi in mine the other day and he asked if they could make one strong enough for roping...but I don't think a flexible tree would be something you would want in a roping saddle!

ok. Thanks Michelle. I have emailed them for more information. I would love to find a used one, because I cant really afford a new one, even though that would be my choice.. still havent won the lottery yet, but working on it!

The problem I see with Kigers and saddle fit is that they often do not have a good wither and they are big in the shoulder so the saddle slips. Does it work well for those horses?

I know that one! Stormy is so wide and no withers, my saddle slides. but what I saw yesterday I did not like, she had several dry spots, and she was wet and I mean wet every where else. She gave us fits for the first time yesterday, as Jim was getting on her she reared up, he fell to the ground, he wasn't even in the saddle just got his foot in the stirrup. He did not let go of the reins, as she bucked, reared, and balked, she learned fast though he won't tolerate it. he got up, held the reins used the end and smacked her rump, and made her go in circles one way then the other, she had to move fast. then she stood still for him to get on her, but she would not walk, all she wanted to do was run, so he opened her up, and she would for a few strides, then act like what am I doing and got confused. So she ended working up a really good sweat. Wet blanket kind. Now Jim wants to round pen her before he rides her, but I feel we should not have to do that, just to get her to be calm. any ideas.... I also wonder if the saddle could be pulled to tight and that is why she acts up...

Glad Jim is OK! Sounds like she was in pain and tried to run but that didn't help. If the spots are dry that's the spots where the saddle is fitting too tight and the blood can't circulate and the glands can't sweat. Kind of like trying to walk in a pair of shoes that are too tight. Its usually down from the withers and back a bit, right behind the top of the shoulder. At least that's where it was on Chinny when I first started to ride him. He would also get small watery bumps along his spine that were itchy, not sore, from the lymph being unable to circulate. He'd work for a while then get cranky and not want to go.

Yep, that's exactly what Mav would do. 2 dry spots on each side and he wasnt happy at all, just like Dianne, he would ride for a bit then he'd had enough. Im still in the process of finding a good saddle for him. Im hoping to try one of these that Michelle has out....

it was on both sides of her withers, across her back she was a bit damp, and my saddle is a full quarter horse tree, and Jim's is a semi quarter tree, and that was what he rode her in at first and no problems but she is so round I am not sure I will ever find a saddle to fit her unless it is special made just for her. I use to have the name of someone who made saddles for Kigers in northern California (I think) but in moving I have lost it. does any one know who it is. I got the name from members of the other kiger board about a year or so ago.I want to say maxwell or something like that.

Just heard back from the makers of the saddle that Michelle is talking about. She said a new one would be $1350.00. Michelle, did you have anything special done to yours? Just wondering the difference in price is all.
