Well it has been a year since the last adoption. I can't believe it! It has been great! I hopefully have a volunteer coming out to do a compliance check and title sign off this weekend for Xana. I haven't been doing much with her lately as we are working on getting weight on again. I tried upping her 50/50 hay and it resulted in the runs and weight loss. We have gone accross the street to the park that has some trails after passing a playground and soccer field. She has been great! So great in fact, that my 9 yo daughter leads her while I lead her "cheeky" filly. Last weekend we went over a couple of small streams without a hitch. I don't have any new photos to share yet, but will post when I do.
How has everyone else's year gone?

Well our year went AWESOME.....Cordero went from a skinny little misfit to a 13.3 hand healthy yearling....This year we went to about 4 fun shows, and a play day where we went thru some scary obstacles and over jumps, a teeter totter bridge, platforms, tarps, etc....He got ponied all around....He trailered all over the St. Louis area, and went on his first solo trailer ride recently....Also he went to our vets (INSIDE!) for his coggins and exam to sign off on his title application...That was probably the scariest thing he did this year....It's a huge university-like equine facility and he would stop, assess the place, and continue to walk on....He's such a level headed little guy! As suspected I did not even get a compliance check, not even by phone....But the important thing is that title application is in the mail, on it's way to Milwaukee! Can't wait to get the title...Here's a fairly recent pic of him.... And here's what he looked like at the corrals, a year ago! I hope everyone is having a blast and I hope we get to see some new photos! Angela

Cordero looks great! He's grown up so much. Hard to believe it's already been a year. I won't get Tesoro's title application until March 30th since I got him off the internet adoption. I think we might try to mount up this weekend. I've been saddling and bridling Tesoro every day, working on giving to pressure from the bit and ground driving. He could care less about the saddle being on him, lol. Today I had him next to the gate, I climbed up a few railings and leaned over his back. He just stood there and looked at me. There is a BLM adoption here in April, and I am planning on taking Tesoro as a demo horse, so I want him well under saddle by then. He's still having problems sometimes with his stifle joints though.... so I'm not gonna do much riding (and definately no faster than a walk) until the vet checks him again next month when we renew coggins and talk about stifle surgery. Here's a pic of T-man on his first day home And here he is last week trying out his western wear And here he is just lookin pretty Sorry... so many pics! I'm just so in love with my boy I have a really hard time not bragging too much, lol.

Angela - Cordera looks wonderful!! What a change and it sounds like you are really getting him out there and handling him! That's great!! I see the same level head in my 2, they really look and think about what's going on! Keep updating us on his progress! I so enjoy see'ing the progress the wild ones make.
Amanda - you mentioned the adoption in Asheville, Id be happy to bring my 2 kigers, although they're not adopted from the wild, but could get interest in the kigers and the future adoption in a few years!!?? Just a thought, let me know what you think....

Wow, the difference in those two colts is amazing! You both did such a great job with them... Their health is up, coats shining! The trotting pic of Tesoro from last year compared to this year is amazing. He is so smooth now, you can see it in the pic to where last year (keeping in mind he was "wild") he was braced and bunched. Great job ladies! Love that color of Cordero... Reminds me of a little sharp shooter around here.

Ditto here. Awesome job with both of your horses. It always amazes me when I go back to look at the photos of our mares, and those of others too, when they were in the pens and hands of the BLM and what they look like after a lot of TLC. "Diamonds in the rough" I call them. We didn't get a visit or even a phone call after the year was up either so don't feel bad. We just received the paperwork. The only thing that bothers me about that is what about the horses that are adopted that are not cared for properly or the owners are having problems gentling them? If the BLM just signs them over without checking on them there is no way of knowing if in fact these people are really caring for their new mustangs. I know the BLM says they are running out of funds and they don't have the money, time or personnel to check on the horses adopted but there are local mustang clubs that I am sure would be happy to assist if only notified or requested. Wow! What a pretty boy! How old is he? And do you remember his necktag number? He looks so mellow about the whole riding thing. I sorta "rode" Tesoro for about 5 seconds today. I had my husband hold the lead rope, and I stood in the stirrup and laid across his back. I patted him on the side and neck a few times, then hopped down and called it a day. It was kinda muddy, so I didn't push the whole riding thing. Slow and steady. That's my motto right now.

La Ponderosa looks good Lisa and Kevin. What a change. They really do turn into beautiful horses after some time. In the corral's they look awful.....diamonds in the rough as someone else said.!!

I love seeing these pictures, it does show that these horses can be fabulous with good care. Ponderosa is looking real good I should send this page to my neighbor who recently picked up a Mustang for free. From just a photo she agreed to bring home a Mustang for free. A lady who had adopted it could no longer care for her herd and just got the title for him. When he arrived it was late and dark the next day I went to see him. A rack of bones this 2 yr old that was the size of a yearling still wearing his halter and lead rope, it was very sad. He is however on the mend and I have convinced her to make a journal with pics to look back on so she sees his improvements. We had to cut that halter off. We are both looking forward to spring when we know he will be healthier and his first shed of all his old coat.

He is a three year old stallion. He is a clients horse and will me going to his new home next spring! He was horse number 8161 in the adoption. I rode Daunte yesterday, but forgot to take the camera. Hopefully Kevin will ride him today and I can get pictures. He is the cutest, sweetest boy!
