I wanted to tell everyone that Mattie is finally at home with me after "forever" with her trainer. What a good, pretty, sweet girl she is. I am so happy with her. She knows how to carry a saddle now, but will be allowed to mature awhile longer before asking her to work under saddle. Lots of ground work and loving for another year.
If you don't know who Mattie is, you can see her in the Classified section in the post about her mother Wiley's Rosabelle.
Thank you, Joan!

Mattie is a beautiful Kiger and you are very lucky indeed, and I suspect that so is Mattie! When they leave wonderful owners like Joan or Dianne etc I breathe a sigh of relief when the new owners are worthy as well! One of the things that scares me about breeding is that eventually in their life they may not end up in such excellent circumstances. It is wonderful when they do. Linda D Linda D

....when the new owners are worthy as well!
I can tell you I do feel a real responsibility to Mattie and Joan! I'm serious about the being worthy thing.
Mattie is at the "too cool to bathe, losing winter fuzz, played in the muddy pond all winter" stage and not at her lovely best, but pictures will come. Do you know how intimidating it will be to post my photos of Mattie after all those gorgeous pictures Joan has taken? <G>

Well, all our horses look the same way! Hair flying everywhere and goat's beards. By the time I get the last one groomed the first one has rolled! You can take glamour shots this summer, but it would be cool to see her.

Ok, will do.
It's going to be kind of scary around here for the next few days. We have a red flag alert meaning extreme wildfire danger. We will have near record high temperatures, humidity 5% or less, sustained winds up to 40 mph, and gusts over 50 mph. Include blowing dirt. There are firefighting brigades from other parts of the country stationed in West Texas because of the ongoing fire danger here and in eastern New Mexico. A fire can start if a vehicle drives across dry grass or if a spark is thrown by a passing train.
I'm going to put fly masks on everybody to keep the dirt out of their eyes. The horses are not in danger from any fires that may occur because where they are is mostly tilled ground this time of year, and they in very large dry lot pens. This is just a nasty time of year here before the vegetation starts to grow.
Joan, when I get pictures, I'll send them to you to post if that's OK. I don't have an online photo account yet.

Thank you, Joan.
Glamour shots will come later! Today it was blowing 30 mph and she kept checking out the camera, thus the closeups. The last shot looks almost like a computer graphics smile.

Her mouth is so relaxed, you can tell she's happy to be with you even in the wind. Very lovely girl. Hope the fire danger passes and you get some rain. We'd gladly send you some of ours if we could rope the clouds and send it your way.

Thanks, Nola. I can't wait to get her slicked and pretty-ed up.
Dianne, I surely hope that's right. She seems relaxed and content with me. We'd gladly take some of your rain. No such luck..........
