I’m posting a few pics from last weekend. We don’t see many horses at one time, but every one we have seen this summer looks pretty fit well fed. This group just wouldn’t go away it seemed. They kept circling half way around us to look and then moving back the other way to look some more. They weren’t more than 30-40 feet away at one point. The mare was a little more reticent than the stallion or the colt, but they were all amazing!! The colt is nursing, I have pics and as we didn’t see a younger foal do you think perhaps she lost it and is allowing this one to nurse in its place? I put the colt between 1 and 2 years old – seem right? We saw one other horse far away up on a hill, and gosh are humans at a disadvantage out there. For us to have gotten closer to the lone horse we would have had to hike for several hours or drive about 15 road miles. We saw skeletons of two full sized horses this trip and they both looked recent in that there was still matter clinging to the bones. They were in two different areas, one by the creek that is divided by the pipe fencing, the other Rick saw but I don’t know exactly where. Hope you emjoy them!

Wonderful pictures and beautiful horses. The wild Kigers you captured look very well. Even the mare nursing her older colt looks good. Thanks for sharing the pictures and what fun it must have been to hunt for wild Kigers.

Wow...Awesome photos! The mare looks a lot like my grulla four year old Kiger mare. Is the stallion a smoky black or a very dark grullo? Thanks for posting these photos. Shirley

We are going to try to have the ability to show a sneak preview of the tape that we have been shooting out there at Kiger Fest . That way you can see them what we saw of them in action, not just stills altho grazing is not very exciting to watch. I want to take some vacation and go back out NOW. We are having fun. We will get to the Riddle HMA later this year - I've never been there.
The stallion looked black and also looked dark grulla. I would say dark grulla, if you look closely you can see part of his dorsal stripe. He had some scarring on the right side of his neck and on his flanks. He was cautious and inquisitive, but just not scared of us as long as we kept the30 foot or so distance between us. I used a juniper tree for cover to walk toward them and then peeked out from behind it to snap a few more pictures of them. I have a shot of the stallion peeking out from behind a juniper at us. I hope we see this group again.

Man - they are very nice and healthy. It amazes me how they can be so healthy without outside influence at all and all our horse's have to be wormed, vaccinated, etc. Makes me wonder if all we do is really that good for them...Thanks so much for sharing. I really love the dun.

Very, very nice horses, I really like the youngster especially. Judging from his tail I would say he's a yearling. The stallion would probably not tolerate a two year old. The stallion is not the colt's sire since he and the dam are both grulla. There was a zebra dun that sired the colt and the grulla stallion won her. Maybe that's why he is marked up.

Rick went out again this weekend and saw the same 3 horses and no new ones. They seem to be destined to play a part in our documentary. They were not any more suspicious than last time. Rick was able to get fairly close and they hung around, eventually going back to grazing. he did some more exploring and wondered if anyone has seen the dump on Clements Ranch road ( road is a loose term, I guess it is worse than the Ant HIll Road inthe KMA) over toward Diamond?
He met a couple on the Kiger HMA with two horses in a trailer, a paint and a Kiger, but didn't get names so if you are out there and want more info on Kiger Fest, jump in. Folks are very willing to share the info and maybe we will see you there even if you don't compete.
