I have noticed folks are marketing spots! I'm not at all versed in the whole hunter/jumper world, but know there's a difference in what they select for as far as movement. I just remember one is supposed to be flashy over fences, the other is timed and how high. According to the trainer up here (she hauls in CA and the US), grays are popular but they go crazy over bays. Marketing, though, is going to be key. Folks who've got Kiger ponies with talent will need to be out there promoting, to be sure!

My gelding Rocky is from Kim K, and is a natural jumper. I jump him all the time out on the trail, and he loves it. I have ridden many jumpers, and he is the first that did not "overjump" in the beginning. He is 14.2, pony size, and I plan to even him at lower levels in the future. I am hoping that my niece will be ready to show him in jumpers in a few years.

Doesn't look Kiger at all to me either. Says he has Kiger markings... wonder what they mean by that. Looks like a little blue eyed pinto pony to me.

He's sure cute!
Is anyone a member? Just pop them an email and tell them there's some talk about starting a Kiger pony registry and ask them which HMA he's from. Could be he's half.

I contacted the owner and the response I got was quit disheartening. She knows the sire side but the dam's side is an unknown mare from the wild. That's all she knows, so it sounds like there may be no Kiger in this pony what so ever. Sorry

So they were probably told the dam was Kiger, and who knows? Could have been. Cute pony either way. Maybe the ought to register it with the AMBA

I contacted her also and she said the mare was named Athena and mother of Athena was wild.
She also wanted me to post for her - she is looking for a dressage kiger. She prefer's claybank but open to other's also. I told her there weren't many claybanks, so if anyone knows of a horse - let me know and I'll give you her contact info. It doesn't matter if the horse is trained or not. She has a trainer.

Yes there definitely would be a market for Kiger hunter/jumper ponies! When I took Shiloh to Jaimie Ziehm for training this past spring, she told me that if Shiloh was pony sized that I could make a small fortune off her! Shiloh was 14.3 when I bought her last year, but is now 15 hands. We were glad that she hit the 15 hand mark. Jaimie took her over a small jump course and Shiloh loved it. I took her over a few too and she was happy to jump. Jaime couldn't get over how elastic and athletic Shiloh is. Jaimie does train some hunter/jumpers and always takes a crew to our big six week A level circuit show near me in East Dorset. We have the big names here for the huge Sunday Grand Prix class each Sunday from early July to this year August 17th. I really should go over and view it the last Sunday, somehow I just haven't made it over there this year. Shirley and Shiloh

I am a new Kiger owner. I want to pinch myself to make sure I am not dreaming! I have been interested in purchasing a Kiger for a couple of years, but the cost is outrageous to get one to my area. I stumbled upon someone right here in my town who had fallen on hard times and needed to disperse a herd quickly. They were mostly Rocky Mountains and Quarter Horses. They also had a few mustangs. They had one little 3 year old Kiger filly. I could not believe it! I immediately fell in love with her. She is pony size. I plan to break her this spring and am hoping she will be the right horse for my 6 year old daughter. I plan to register her in the spring. She came from the Riddle Mountain HMA. I hope she will make the height requirements. I have not measured her yet.

Welcome Brandy (I hope that's your name) Congragulations on your purchase. Where do you live? How lucky to find one in your town. I live on the east coast and it's very hard to get them here as well. The shipping cost is what kills you. It's so exciting to get your first kiger. I can remember when I got mine! Now I've got 2 and getting ready to have 3 They are addictive. Do you have other horse's as well? I look forward to hearing lots of stories from you. Post some pics when you can! I would love to see her. Have you thought of a name yet?

Thank you for the welcome. My little Kiger, Faith, was adopted in 2007. I purchased her from her adopter. I am in central Arkansas. I just knew that I would never find one close enough to me to actually be affordable. I just stumbled across her. I have actually been looking for a pont for my 6 year old. I was having terrible luck finding the right one. Faith is actually the size of a large pony. She has a much better temperment than most ponies I have looked at. She is soooo sweet! I know she will be easy to train. She is tiny and solid bay. Not a speck of white on her. I have a 2007 Quarter horse filly, a 2002 appaloosa mare and her 2009 filly, besides Faith.

Hi Brandy--you are close to me--in terms of Kigers, ha ha--I'm in Oklahoma. There are a few Kigers here and in Kansas, and Texas. There is also a very active Midwest Mustang and Burro club--just google that and it should point you right to them. I don't think they have any Arkansas members, yet...
I have 2 full kiger mares and one 3/4 kiger. I try to get them out and about as much as possible and they are a big crowd pleaser here, even though we are QH country.
Great to have you on board!

Hi Brandy, Welcome to the Board! I think you will find that Kigers are the best with kids! They protect them and are so careful of them.
