Our mare Whinny has an infection in her girl thingy. The baby was born 6 days ago and it looked like we got all of the placenta. Has anyone heard of this before? We started her on antibiotics this a.m.

They can also get an infection from bacteria getting in there during the birth. Especially if they lay down and get back up and the foal slips back in a little or some and the placenta is contaminated.
What antibiotic are you using? I belive only Gentamiacin treats those type of infections and if I remember correctly it is a five day treatment. Call your vet and see if you have not already! Good luck with it!
