There is a 13 yr old ungenteled mare in a rescue here in my area who is in need of a home VERY soon. The gal says she has a week to plece her before she moves. She has held off calling in a slaughter buyer and I am not saying she will, but she has no place to send her. I spoke with Tara just now and will post this on the Kiger FB page when I find it. Tara was trying to find a man in California who has some mustangs and may have had room for her but he is not to be found.
The mare is not agressive, but has no use for humans aside from food and water. I absolutely can't take her long term but am close to hooking up the trailer and bringing her here for now. I have a quota of four horses per our homeowner and I am at max now with no wish to defy him and find all of us in need of new quarters. This is the mare we had for a while and she threw a nice filly in 2010.
The rescue lady talked about how her trainer would work with her and her boyfriend would make her his special project and work with her. Seems there is not really a trainer and the boyfriend is green when it comes to horses. My hope was that someone would be able to gentle her and she could find a permanent home. I have checked with several long term facilities and they are full so if you hear of a home for a pasture pet please let me know soon.
Thank you
Update!!!
I spoke with County Animal Control who had already opened an investigation. The deputy said the mare is in about the best shape of the nine horses - she is in pretty good shape. I am going to bring her here for now and thel local equine rescue is going to help try to place her.
No one will notice another dun in the pasture will they? I don't have a "back forty" on which to hide her so Rick will see her eventually. Landlord lives in Ca. thank goodness.
