Toni, I believe I'm gonna fly out and pay a shipper to haul back. As soon as I choose a hauler, I can send you the info. I just don't think I can spend a week driving! It would take me about 3 days driving there, then probably 4 days driving back hauling a loaded trailer. I'm not sure yet.... plans might change and I might still end up driving. So many "ifs" out there right now. I will definately keep your offer in mind though... if I have a few people willing to pay me to haul, it might end up being worth it to drive.

I am planning on adopting. Any other east coast people planning on bringing one home? Anyone interested in sharing a trailer? I'm located in western NC, and I have a big pen that I can unload in. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it for me to drive that far, or if I should just pay a shipper.

Im going but will be flying out there. Flights are running around $400 - $500 roundtrip from GA to Redmond right now. I would love to drive out but like you said, it takes up so many days driving there/back! I havent heard of anyone else adopting other than Mary, the lady that bought Cruz in Florida. She may be interested in helping out with fuel, I'll let you know.

Received a tentative gathering schedule for the Summer. Looks like the Kiger Mountain range will start gathering 1st of July and then Riddle Mountain range 6th of July. A possible 139 total will be kept for adoption. Gatherings appear to be 1 day events. Are the Oct dates definite?

Dang it, babies are still really young, better than the heat in late July and August I guess but wish they would do it in September with a November adoption.

Yea thats not good. Ive heard you guys have had a lot of rain up there also so things will be slick and muddy, which will not help during the round up. I hope everyone survives! When will we know how it goes? Is there someone at blm who can keep us updated?

Rick and I will be filming at least one of the gather days and will film at the corrals also. We planned on sharing pictures and info with the board so stay tuned. We were there last weekend and the roads were treacherous. See my post under Kigers on the HMA for details.
BLM has said they will move the trap around to avoid having to move and run the foals and mares long distances and I believe that. One large band is very close to the entrance of the HMA and should not have to travel far. For the horses down toward the back side and the ones on West Hill I am not sure how that will go,

The dates for the gathers have changed. It is now scheduled to run July 6-15 with the Kiger HMA gathered first. I wondered if any one else is planning to attend? They are taking only 10 people each day and it is first come first serve so we have to meet at the BLM office each morning and there is no assurance that there will be a gather every day. I understand the "watchdog group" will have observers present. Gosh I hope they don't run their mouths as they did on a gather last year. Everytime the copter brought a group in one lady in particular had a negative opinion and said they were killing the horses, stressing the foals, going too fast, etc. As we have footage of several bands coming in we can state and prove that they did not run the horses long distances and they moved them at a decent pace.
We will camp out there and drive back to Burns to queue up each day we want to film. If you are going and want to camp on the HMA we can show you a good spot
We promise to get you pictures as soon as possible. Our local (Bend Oregon) NBC affiliate TV station is going to air a little of the footage and Tara/Burns BLM has agreed to answer several questions on camera to help educate folks. I am excited!!!! On one hand I hate to see them gathered but as they don't share the same fate as many mustangs and are lovingly adopted it is a good thing. At least we know we can keep the breed alive with private stock if it came to that and we always have some good stories that come after the adoption.
Does anyone know if someone is helping with "gate cuts" since we lost Ron?
Thanks!

I don't know if anyone is helping with the gate cuts, hope they leave the Lonesome Prince out there!! He's just past the entrance into the Kiger, where the cattle guard and the fenced off field are. Dun, no white. With his lighter dun coat color and super movement he needs to be out there. I need to come with you and find out the proper names of all these places!

Prizumbluekigers...I wish it were true that all the kigers gathered find loving homes .We're seeing them given away on Craigslist...rescued in abuse cases and then there's Rick's horses...given away or sold for $1 when the market fell out.I'll bet we could find a few in holding pens from the last roundup. No horses are safe in this market right now. Personally,I wish we'd leave them where they are.If you people really want a kiger...buy one from these folks so egar to breed their adopted backyard mares & stallions...I know, not a popular opinion on this board but I've been involved with rescues & mustangs for many years and have strong feelings about what's going on all over in the horse world & it ain't pretty ..JMHO

Couple of grays in the gather from Riddle, could just see a couple pieces of them on the BLM site.
