He looks all grown up now, has his own girls and all. But at five they go through a change again. Next year we get to see babies! That's the most fun... it will be interesting to see how they compare in personality to the TB foals you are used to. You're sure doing a great job with him!

Yes Sarah...you'd better tie, bolt and chain everything down with a couple Kiger babies on the ground! They get into everything!

Well, scratch the bolting. My little herd of foals this year have been taking the special safe nut tops on the bolts that hold the top stall board in place so they can remove boards. It's not like they can't see eachother at night when they are in stalls - the boards only go up 3.5 feet! Sometimes I come out and one stall will have all the top boards removed (and then pooped on of course!). Mostly Zerlina and Max's stalls (hmmmm...both Gringo babies!! Very industrious!).

And they don't quit when they are older either! My three year old, Quil, watched me fasten the chain on the new round pen and proceeded to work it with her nose for at least 20 minutes trying to get in. Lucky for me I had wrapped it around itself.

I've learned to not let them watch me fix things around here. Too many times when I come back it is disassembled again...at least on horsey terms! Once we had a water spigot break and Sycha and some of the other mares where standing under the nice mist from it. Sycha leaned over my shoulder the whole time I was fixing it and the next day I come out and the water is running all over on the ground with the mares standing perplexed they were not getting a nice shower anymore. The broke the pvc piping and the float and hose where scattered over the pasture. Brats!

My mare Lazzy is like that- I'm going to have to start putting her in isolation when I fix stuff. She's into everything. And now that Cat has moved to my Mom's barn to help with her COPD, Mom has had to go into lock-down mode, seems in 1 month Cat has figured out how to get into and out of everything that was perfectly safe for the other 4 horses for the past 5 years now.
They are very clever little brats indeed ;D
