I am not to worried at the moment Fantasy seems to be following her normal pattern pretty much as last time, so wax a week, drip milk for a week (we are still waxing)...I still think the first week of April. Of course I am watching her closely for any sign she is acting differantly, so far she is dragging things along per usual. She has a fair share of edemia between her front legs as last time, like she is developing a bag up front ...LOL...... poor girl.

Here are some new pictures of those waxy udders... A nice side profile..notice the lovely Central Oregon spring time weather we are having ... a front profile where you can see some of that edemia located between her front legs, I did not get rid of her forelock just braided it back out of her eyes.

Glad you had a talk with her... It is weird weather. We've had two days of snow north of Seattle and the pasture has lakes in it. When I dumped the water out of the feeders there must have been over two inches of rain/melted snow. Thankfully I didn't change the filly's warm blanket to a sheet yet.

Ok the snow is gone and the days are warming up some thankfully. I am starting to hallucinate...LOL ;D I swear I was looked at the little TV monitor on a stool at the foot of my bed last night and Fantasy was laying down in the stall. I jumped out of bed threw on some clothes, shoes and coat and ran out side turned the lights on in the barn to find her standing there quietly eating hay. Blinking her eyes like "dang turn off those bright lights". I turned on the less bright tack room light and left it on, turned off the bright lights and went to bed. I checked my monitor with my second rate camera and the low light, just the way the straw was laying and me being half awake I swear it looked like a pale horse laying down. Good news is when I sent her out to the pasture today she was dripping milk quite steadly, I would have took a picture but my daughter has my camera, I will have to wait until later. She should have this foal within' a week now. I am betting this weekend. I will be setting my alarm to wake me for hourly checks thru' out the night now.

I am sorry false alarm she is back with the other horses eating in the pasture. She was just standing out there for awhile contemplating a really big poo'. I am home all day to keep an eye on her for any odd behavior, her stall is clean and ready now. See what these mares do to us people turn us into blubbering idiots.

For the final time Fantasy has been moved back to her foaling stall. A little later after her breakfast I found her all alone in the back of the pasture.
Don't tell me......Could this be her idea of a April Fools joke!

Tiffany, I made a deal with my mare to wait till it get warmer at night. The overnigt temp of 8 degrees at my place is too cold. I know you moved, but I think you still live close to me. I passed a pasture the other day and it looked like some of your horses. Actually, I think Mother Nature has taken a hand in this and perhaps both of our mares are waiting. I leave tomorrow morning on business , back Thursday , so mine will foal Wed. night just to spite m. Hope hubby remembers the foaling training he got. Oh well, I wrote things down too and if he thinks he is in trouble he can start knocking on neighbors doors.

Tiffany, my sympathies! I know how you feel and want to react to every move they make now! Momma is holding out and she usually does not get milk until the last 24 hours. Poor Mari looks like her boobies are deflated tonight...that little gal has been bagged up for 2 months now. I told Lynn that sooner or later a yearling will climb out!

reading all this makes me a nervous nilly. cause I am always watching Flashy, everyone tells me leave her be, she will have it when she wants, so i understand Tiffany, and I bet I am worse since I am a newbie at all of this...

Nola, it is okay to be nervous and check on your mare. It is an investment that you need to protect, so never feel bad about it. We do all we can to be present because you just never know. I know folks that do even do 2 hour checks, only to find trouble has happened in that small amount of time. You can't do everything, and mares can be sneaky about it, but do your best to be alert and watch her for changes.
Last year we had a foal that was squeezed in the birth canal too long and his head was swollen and he acted like a dummy foal. One quick call to the vet and 1/2cc of banamine and in a short while he was fine. If I missed this, he surely could have fallen down and smacked his head trying to get up and being extra wobbley. Or had damage due to poor oxygen supply to the brain.
We always stay until the foal is up, nurses, lays down and naps, then gets up and nurses agian....oh, and of course a poop! This way I can get a good grasp on anything if it is not right.
So...don't feel bad about it!!
