Fantasy is known for twins she has had to be flushed because she had twins to close together that pinching one off was not viable. The twins showed up when she was bred to Cowboy. We have had to pinch one off as well. We always ultrasound her for sure this time she only has one. I joked with the vet to check for long ears, of course at 30 days it was just a blob. You can see more of that belly sticking out on the sides from a front view. I imagine she will blossom and grow huge in March.

Tiffany, I am so excited to see Fantasy's foal. I have been wanting to do a Kiger mule for quite a while and still might with my mare Cali. We'll see... but I have heard that the mules take after their dam's coloring. You just may get a dun, but I bet it'll gray out...should be a beauty!
When is she due again?

lindad..I would be thrilled to have a mule that looked like my Fantasy, thanks for the links. Sadly that second one of your new mule does not work. Do you have a pic' to post ? because I would love to see your new mule.
JoanMRK .. Fantasy is due March 31st or there abouts, I have been told that mule foals can take a tad bit longer to bake in the oven so not to be surprised if she goes over.

Yeah, actually burros take over a year to bake! So that must be where the mules get it.

The mule will be trained for trail, I am looking for a nice tailriding mule. If I work up enough guts on my part I just may show my mule. Alot is up in the air with this mule. My original plan was to trade the mule foal, for a already ready to ride mule. But recently I have been getting my confidence back in my ablitiy to train a foal to maturity back and think I would like the challenge of keeping this mule for myself. I will play it by ear basicly, I have plenty of time to make a decision for now.

Okay, you have got to have been thinking of names........we have a mule here that came in for training. His name is Pedro - he is not gelded (don't ask why, another story!). Well, he has the longest um, private part, I have ever seen on a horse! That thing can touch the ground it is so huge.
Anyway, his new name is PJ - short for Pedro Johnson.

We had a cold snap last week and I had to bring up the "secret" mare that Charro is bred too as she is old and has lost some condition. All the other mares are so jealous and ticked off now that there are three mares up (well, four actually, because I had to bring another mare up that is buds with the old mare or the old gal freaks). They used to only come up at night to be fed, now they are waiting at the back gate (they have 75 acres) in the morning and come up early in the evening. Sycha keeps standing right next to me when I go out there in "haltering" position - shes' ready to come up!

Ha! I have a colt named Pedro... Pistol Packin' Pedro. Sometimes I call him Pete.
So what's with the "secret" mare?

I don't mean for it to be mysterious...it is just that there has been so much involved with getting this mare, then getting her bred, a school of other issues, did not even think she took, could not get an ultrasound done....plus she is 20 this year and I just don't want to jinx it until that foal is on the ground! After everything we went through, I was hoping she was not bred, but it is clear she is!
JP suggested this particular cross, then hopefully get a breeding quality filly and take that to a Luso....should be interesting if it all works out.

She is due May 11th, let's hope all goes well! We are ripping apart some pastures right now to redo them so we can have a second pasture for the lower mares on the pecking order. The pasture by the barn where the new roundpens are we are cutting off for an obstacle course. then we are taking out the fence line between that pasture and the mare pasture and redoing it around up the road from the sideline alley and including the new run-in shed so these mares can stay out during the summer and I don't have to worry about bringing them in at night. I figure I can put 2-3 mare/foal pairs in there, it should work out to 6+ acres. This also means there will be a walkway to the sideline through that pasture so people don't have to mess with going through other horses to bring theirs up.

Dianne, My old ( 33 yrs this year ) Smyth Creek mare Tahnay was one of twins when she and her dam and sister were gathered in 1976 as yearlings. Tahnay has had a tendency to concieve twins and as a result of that I always have my mares ultrasounded at 16-18 days, with the exception of the couple who just don't do the vet thing well. With any luck I will have a foal this year by Fuego out of my 28 year old Kiger mare ( foaled on Riddle in 1980 ) and my Shawave Nevada Mustang mare is definitley in foal to Ki ( we call her fertile Myrtle lol ). Rosalita is in foal to Kody for a late March baby, but Rosa is residing in Wisconsin now so all I get are pictures of that baby!! Everyone please post pics when those babies start coming!!! Kim

Mari has started bagging up. She also looked really uncomfortable this evening. Michelle thinks maybe another couple of weeks. Can't wait!
