Poor maiden Tasa...she has no idea what is going on with her and she is wiped out and tired all the time. She is having a tough time keeping up with Mari and Troy; more and more I notice her further away from them. She is in one of the big foaling stalls during the night and loves to just stand in front of her fan and nap. She is by Charro and out of Sage (Riddle mare from the wild); bred to Gringo. First time two of our horses we bred and raised now having a foal - very exciting! Here she is four days ago...

Tasa is hanging in there...I am doing checks a couple times a night. Her hind end is loose and dimply - udders are typical maiden mare: small! They are still going down some during the day. Pict taken a few days ago - her flanks are really filled in now:

Looks like she has a good friend for company, that helps a lot I think.

Yes, she and Mari are buds for sure.
Tonight Tasa had enough milk to test; not showing totally ready, but maiden mare - who knows? She did have a little wax on each teat early evening. Will be doing checks on her through the night. I have somewhere to go tomorrow night, so my guess is she'll wait until then.

So many variables with maiden mares you just don't know, when they will foal and what they will think, they can get frightened by the foaling experience. Fantasy ran to the corner of the foaling stall after her first foal was born. Not sure what that wobbling wet filly was doing in her space. Fantasy's motherly insticts quickly took over as I comforted her. She became a wonderful broodmare.

Filly!! Just a teaser...running on fumes so more later. Tasa is an amazing momma and so far Gringo gets to keep his family jewels (at least for another year!
