NEW!!!!!! Possible camping dates for the HMA trip

I'm going to throw some dates out so we can decide.

June 24-26; July 9-11; Aug 5-7. Once we narrow it down we can let BLM know so they can weigh in on the dates. Please suggest alternatives if you have them.

which month has the best weather?

We feel it is June, although the nights could be chillier than later in the summer. It is a trade off because the days in July and August will be hotter. By chillier, I mean sweater weather at night or early morning. With so much daylight in the summer months when we film we usually go out early, break for the heat of mid afternoon and go back out again. Anyone else who has been there want to weigh in?

I don't mind chilly nights so much as I mind hot weather! You can always add another layer, but you can only take so much off lol. June sounds like a nice time.

At this time I don't have any other plans on any of those dates

Let's give this until the weekend to see who else might comment and if there are no alternative dates proposed I will contact BLM with this weekend and see if that works for them. We'll post more about camping and local accommodations later on. We'll be camped on the HMA as I plan to take Fit. I am going to try to teach him to high line tie before the trip just in case, but I plan on making him a temporary corral. We are going to try our first trip of 2011 in a couple of weeks to see if we can find any horses, assumingwe can get in. I have no idea how much snow is there.

Any conclusion on a date yet? I went ahead and told my daughter to take the weekend in June off work, should there be any changes please let me know right away.

Those dates sound good. I don't know if I can make it all the way up there, but I will mark it on the calender just in case.

Okay, I am going to contact BLM and see if we can set a date. Let's go with the June dates, 24-26th, although I am not sure Fit and I will be ready for the open range unless I get back with his trainer before that. Doesn't matter except that I set the goal to ride him on the HMA and I am not getting any younger or more supple and less cautious. Got my work cut out for me in the next few months.

I wanted time for the dust to settle on BLM and their gather plans for this year but I haven't heard if the Kigers are considered an exception to the rules so I will contact Tara and let you know.

Sorry folks but as the time draws near it seems traveling that far for a horse camping trip may not be feasable for me. I will be horse camping this summer, just much closer to home.

Okay, now that the gather is back on we should plan the trip before BLM creates activity on the HMA's that will change the daily routines. Let's look at the weekend of June 24, 25, 26. We will go out Friday. Please let me know if you are still interested- come with or without your horses. Someone from BLM will come for lunch and speak about the HMAs, forage, water and more. We should have a good idea of where to view horses and you can come and do a little pre-adoption shopping, or wishing and dreaming. For those who don't have an opportunity to visit in person prior to the adoption, we will try to get some individual shots or footage and post here so you can have an idea of what we might see in November.
