I decided I should put my continued adventures in riding Fantasy here in the appropiate category. I rode Fantasy on Friday for the first time after our big ride out on elk lake tralhead. This time it was a solo ride from my house. I started walking her to the BLM entrance. Half way there I mounted her and attempted to ride her the rest of the way but she was backing up and refusing to go forwward so she was not ready at that point. So I got off and continued to walk her to the entrance. Once out in the BLM I mounted and she was like a rocket. Our ride at elk lake was mostly trotting out so she was anxious to do the same. I did not want to discourage her forward movement but she was all over the place and thru the open brush she really needs to follow my direction. So I worked on transitions while using the terrain to my advantage. smooth sand trot out, rocks walk and so on. Riding like a rocket lasted about 20 min. Then I had to ask for the trot. As I headed home I put her on dirt roads and then my horse started to run out of fuel apparantly. Because she would stop and turn her head and look at me which means 'I need a treat' I would give her a treat and forward we would go...LOL. She did that several times on the way home. Sure beats the ol' days when she would get tired and start bucking to get me off when she was done. The last 15 min. were pretty slow going as she hung her head low strolling home. We had only been gone an hour we are still a work in progress But all in all it was a very successful ride. I am just pleased as punch to be riding my horse.

I took Fantasy out this morning to ride with a friend of mine. We had one moment on the way to my friends house when Fantasy decided to spin around and head back home but I just got control, got off and walked her to my friends house where I met with her and her horse. We rode out and headed for some BLM trails both horses were a little reluctant to go forward away from homeward bound direction but we managed to keep them moving forward and when we reached the trail both had given up trying to go back home. It was another nice ride, I only had to dismount that once. All of Fantasy's other refusals were fairly mild and she gave up with out much of fight and followed my direction. Every ride can't be perfect but each ride our communication is getting better and my confidence is coming back.

Glad your ride ended up well. Working with horses is never ever ever never ever a straight line; always some zig zags in there to keep us on our toes! Keep at it and keep us updated.

I can relate Tiff It's been really difficult to understand a horse who doesn't find unlimited joy in bounding down any trail in front of him..my arabs have all been nearly unstoppable ..literally!I've been known to spend 50 miles yelling WHOA...Slow Down!!Bless their little hyperactive souls :>) Now with Amigo I keep hoping I'll find the key to open his love of the trail but till then...we'll walk & stop & start & carry on & learn to speak the language of dressage and maybe meet somewhere along the way as real partners.

Fantasy experienced a new challenge as we climnbed a butte on Wed. with a friend of mine. It 3/4 mile of steep up hill climbing with beautiful views. We rested on top I manged a couple pictures on the way down but Fantasy would feel her footing slipping and she would get frightened, I had to resort to dismounting and walking her down. But she did real good for a forst time I was proud of her. I took this little slide show of the views. www.kodakgallery.com/gallery/creativeapps/slideShow/Main.jsp?facebook=true&sourceId=984136008703

Glad you and Fantasy are having some good riding time now. I know it's a struggle to get thru those fear moments but once you do, it really helps you build your confidence up. Hang in there and you guys will be a team before long. Thats the great things about horses is that they are very forgiving thru our transistions as well. After getting her thru this, you'll be good and set for Super when he's ready!

Oh goody! You guys look great. Fit has been to Tumalo Res, I have not yet. I'm going to haul him down the road this weekend and ride out from there. If you saw all those potentially scary things and Fantasy did not spook, she is coming along nicely. I can't remember if she has a freeze brand or not. If so, you two should go to the show at Brasada next July. I'm going to brave it and I have not been in an arena to show in 25 or so years. I do intend to practice all winter and spring so I don't offer any comic relief to the spectators.

Fantasy is not freezebranded or full Kiger, though she is all Mustang her mama is from Warm Springs. Fantasy is however a deadringer to her sire Kiger Mustang Big Indian, from the stripe on her face to the one white coronet band. I do plan to be there however in July, if not to show to participate in the trail challenges again. I did it this past year with my Morgan mare and hope to return with Fantasy.

Fantasy and I have just been hanging out like the old days this week. I let her loose to roam the property while I am busy on the tractor cleaning up the pasture, working on the stalls and such. All the other horses are locked up in the arena and just get to look on. It is fun to have her with me like this, she stepped in front of the tractor at one moment blocking me, I noticed she had a nice tumble weed stuck in her forelock from rummaging out behind the barn. I got down and removed it for her and she moved along....LOL. Fantasy cleaned up all the loose hay on the barn floor for me too, good girl
