ACTHA is American Competitive Trail Horse Association and the rides are held nationwide through affiliates- anyone can be an affilliate and can host a ride at their property or at a state park or something. The competition consists of 6 obstacles set up throughout a trail ride. The ride is supposed to be about 6 miles long and you can ride with other people or by yourself and it is at your own pace. You can compete in "Pleasure" where you are assigned more basic obstacles or "Open" where the difficulty is increased. For instance an obstacle might be a wooden bridge- in Pleasure you would walk across the bridge. In Open you might be asked to stop your horse in the middle of the bridge for a count of 5 before proceeding. In Pleasure you might be asked to open a gate, in Open you'd have to open it and close it. I've really had fun and I just started hauling to these rides all by myself and have met a great group of people. Bravo gets a lot of attention. It's been a real confidence booster working through the obstacles. Bravo and I are now competing for America's Favorite Trail Horse and here's his Facebook page, you can see lots of pictures from our events this past year: www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Bravo-Canyon-Americas-Favorite-Trail-Horse/183326168352712 You can check out www.actha.us for more details.
