The last few weeks, Caseys' bad days seem worse but her good days are better - she is at the extreme ends of the spectrums. There has been about four times when she has actually walked or trotted across the stall and looked normal. The first time I saw it out of the corner of my eye and thought I was seeing things; but over the next few days I noticed it more. She is now nursing from the right side, which is new and also will lay on her right side. Some other improvements are that for awhile, her cannon bones in the front had gone more to the outside of her leg for support. They are back to the center again and even the thickness that was begining under the outside of the knees is gone. Her feet were also growing forward and her bulbs were down. I did not mess with them because I figured she needed a larger base of support. Well, now her feet are growing up like they should... Casey did get worse when we missed an appointment with the therapist and instead of seeing her twice, it was only once last week. It made a big difference in her stability. We had our second appointment with the homeopathic vet yesterday and he'll be sending out a new remedy to give Casey. He also thought it is a good idea to start getting her out of the stall and getting her strong again. So...yesterday we walked Sycha in the covered pen and Casey came out guns a'blazen. She had three hard falls - broke my heart; but then started to be more careful and catch herself. Today we did a repeat and she did not fall at all. She does get tired quick, so about five mintues is her limit right now. I am going to give this new remedy a shot, then we conference agian in ten days...after that, I am most likely going to go into my last ditch efforts if we can't get a more marked improvement. I want Casey to have every chance, but I also don't want to prolong the inevitable if that is what is meant to be. Thanks to everyone for the support in this difficult time. Picture is of Casey yesterday:

I was so hoping to read of some improvement and it looks as though it is starting. Pray that it will continue. She is such a nice filly. The thing to remember is that she doesn't know any different so she probably isn't suffering as much as you are over this.

The good days and bad days are really strange and must have you in constant worry as to why it changes. Hope things keep heading in the right direction.

I think her bad days are when she has a fall and it takes her a couple days to straighten back out. After going out for two days (only five mintues at a time), she began to limp on her left hind but this was also after the therapist worked on her so it was normal for her to get a little worse while her body readjusts. My husband gets worked on by the same gal and for the rest of the day, he is discombobulated; it is normal when you are dealing with a chronic issue.
I gave her the next remedy last night and I swear she is much better today. I hate to get my hopes up but she seems like she did about a month ago...much more stable. She had really gone down hill the last few weeks, so I am glad to see this upswing. She is perky this morning and her spirits are good.
I was speaking to a trauma nurse yesterday and she said it can take months for brain swelling to go down and even up to a year for spinal compressions to straighten out. Those are the two things that I belive can be going on with her, so I guess time will tell.
Casey had another dose this morning and one more tonight...dare I hope she progresses over the next week or so?

I know my mild concussion took six months before I could think straight again. It does sound like spinal compressions doesn't it, especially related to falling? Sometimes the message can reach the leg and sometimes it doesn't.
