I just got home from watching Lil and her 4 year old Sofie ( My Kiger Tiger x Kiger Dulcinea )compete in thier first ever dressage test at Donida Farm. They were fabulous! Lil and Sofie won first in thier first test with a score of 70+ and they got third in thier second test. This was not a mustang or Kiger show, this was an all age all breed dressage show and Lil was in a class of 10 or 12. I am so proud of these two! Lil has done such an outstanding job with Sofie. Can't wait for her to post the video so we can all see!! C'mon Lil, brag!

Wow! What a day! Though I grew up riding, and did some 4-H shows, it was always my dream to ride dressage. Today was my very first dressage show, and Sofie's too! Sofie is a Kiger mare I bred and raised. I have done all her training myself, while taking two lessons a month to keep us on the right track. I put a handful of hours on her last year, but put off really riding her till this last January. So we have been working toward this for less than 5 months. I told my husband this morning I just did not want to come in last place in our class, but deep in my heart I actually hoped for a ribbon. Sofie did everything just as I expected, and her only trouble spot was riding straight at the judges. She thought they looked suspicous . There were some absolutely beautiful horses there, with big, floaty trots, and professional looking trainers. I didn't know how the judges would compare those horses with Sofie. And I also worried about there being little things I would do wrong just from inexperience. But our first class, Training Level Test 1, we has a score of 70.43, and won first place! I could hardly beleive it! Our second test was Training Level Test 2, and I was trying harder to get more collection from her, and the remarks said she looked stiff through the back, and against the bit. So that was probably my fault. We got a score of 65, and third place. Amazing day for me; And a big thanks to Kim for coming to root for us! here are some pics, and a video of the Test 1.

That's great news! And I am glad the paparazzi got some pictures and a video I bet your elated right now. It's a lot of fun to be able to work with the horse that you bred and raised. Congrats for your accomplishment and hard work.

Beautiful. I think I saw Miss Sofie 2 (?) years ago at Kigerfest. She was pretty then, but she beautiful and seems the "perfect" partner. Thanks for sharing.

Lil:
Wonderful job with Sofie! Love to see Kigers out in the GP competing against other breeds....Great luck to you both on your dressage career!
I was watching a Ken McNabb episode on RFD-TV and interestingly enough they were talking about famous mustangs...Ken was talking about the Kiger stallion that Bobby Ingersoll rode and lived at KHP and mistakenly called him "Kiger Tiger" instead of Kiger Cougar so he must know My Kiger Tiger as well.....Hehehe...

Stacey, yes, I had Sofie at Kigerfest as a two year old, for halter and trail in hand. We went last lear to the PWHC show, and I showed her in walk-trot english and western pleasure. She just had about 20 days under saddle at that point, as a three year old, and took it all in stride! Then I let her sit through through the fall, and got back to working with her this year. She has always been eager to learn, and makes it all so fun! I have her younger sister coming up behind, and can only keep so many, so Sofie remains for sale .

Congratulations! The placement and ribbons are a plus but I know that just getting through your first test is a huge accomplishment. Just curious, would you mind sharing Sofie's coefficient scores? Private email me if you prefer. I know that my Kiger's coefficiency scores made the difference in our rides. Gosh this sounds like I'm discounting your ride...absolutely not ...Sofie and you look great!! Coeffiency scoring is huge in dressage!

Karen, No, I don't mind at all, though I am so new to this, I won't know if I am boasting, or embarrasing myself by my scores! Are the coefficient scores just the ones that get multiplied by 2 or 3? If so, on Test 1, our free walk / medium walk we had an 8 x 2, on Gaits we had a 7 x 2, on Impulsion we had a 7x 2, on Submission a 7 x 2, and Rider a 7 x 3. On Test 2, on the circle left canter we had a 6 x2, on the free walk a 7 x 2, on the circle right canter a 6 x 2, Gaits 7 x 2, Impulsion 6 x 2, Submission 6 x 2, and Rider 7 x 3. Was that what you were after? Lil
