Check out the ear stripes she almost has enough stripes to qualify as a Zorse ....LOL I would say sooty dun, she may have a creme to gene to lighten' the base coat maybe not.

I don't know any ages on this mare...she's a QH on a list I belong to and the gal just got the test results back. I know the first pict is when she got her and the next one is recent (within a year).

Is the "brown" result odd? I don't know a whole lot about the break down of color and its manifestations, so is this considered unusual?

Michelle, do you mean agouti? Like a zebra dun with some other modifiers? Maybe like sooty or something? Never have read "brown" in a genetic report before.

Brown is a "new" gene discovered by the French when they were looking for the pangere gene. It seems to act like an incomplete bay (agouti) gene in that it lightens the coat but not as much as a bay gene. Its possible that some of the coyote duns, that look like both zebra dun and grulla are brown duns. The horse will test positive for agouti but not look like a bay (or zebra dun).

Wow I was really far off on this guess! So basically I guess she would be what you would call a mouse dun and then she has the creme gene as well?I've actually never seen this exact coloring in a quarter horse before, I was wondering Mrs.Michelle if you know what bloodlines she has in her pedigree?I've actually been noticing lately that certain quarter horse bloodlines tend to lead toward certain quarter horse colors for instance the Skipper W and Vandy lines are often found in champagne quarter horses.

I checked out her pedigree and she has 2x crosses to Poco Bueno and 2x to King Fritz. Both of these stallions are in so many pedigrees nowadays its hard to tell which colors they tend to produce, although a lot of horses I have seen that are dun or buckskin tend to have several crosses to Poco Bueno.I was actually a little suprised that this mare had the Halter champ The Invester in her bloodlines a couple generations back its very rare nowaday to have halter bloodline crossed with ranch bloodlines in the quarter horse industry.
