He was able to work through it and you were able to help him accomplish it so well that he rubbed his face in it and you ARE a TEAM! That is success in my book!

Yes, I completely understand the mooseman. I look up at Super and wonder what am I thinking..well I know what I thinking, I do not want to ever fall off. Riding a tall big horse isn't and issue for me I truely loved riding my Clydesdale mare, falling off however is an issue. I still have 2 more years before I consider getting in the saddle with him we shall see how things go. In the meantime I work on my skills and my confidence with Fantasy.

Well Tiffany...my heart goes out to you with a mustang mule...wow!and a boy at that...you have your work cut out for you.A friend of mine has a 5 yr old beauty she's had since a weanling & we've compared notes for yrs about our challanges with our boys.Looks like you're doing a great job with him.Keeping him interested & motivated will always be important & JMHO.....I'd get him tacked up & carrying weight sooner rather than later..pack saddles etc.....will post pix of Indy(my friend's mule ) someday. He looks alot like Super. Dressage tomorrow on Amigo..will be interesting.

OH I have lots planned for Super, wearing that pack saddle I own is one of them and learning to drive next year is another. A couple years packing and driving under his belt will hopefully set him up for an easier transition to riding mule. But you never what direction time and circumstances will take you. I would love to see your friends mule.

Had my best lesson yet today on Amigo.Very forward & responsive. We laughed that he was probably so relieved to find himself back in the arena that he was more than willing to please! He had more than enough drama at the race to last for awhile...did I mention his halter ripped apart when he scratched his head on trailer & got caught & then trotted off to visit the only other horse in camp?took a while to borrow a halter big enough to fit him(all those little arab heads) & get him back to my camp...or the fact that he got his leg trapped in his hay net (was pawing BIG TIME )just as we were pulling into park at his pasture..THANK GOD! cause he thew a fit & nearly knocked the trailer over thrashing...(no more nets,,,only canvas bags from now on!.).everything turned out fine & except for some scrapes on his face he was just fine....it was a pretty crazy weekend.I think we were both happy to just trot those circles!! :>)

A pretty exciting weekend indeed. I am glad you both made it thru' the experience OK and next time hopefully it will be less dramatic. I am glad he is much more appreciative of the relaxed atmosphere of the arena and your simple requests of him there.

That sounds like something Calsita would do. After a long hard weekend ride, just being content to take a slow easy pace in the arena.

Hummm.didn't mean to imply our work in the arena is slow or relaxed.Actually my trainer rides him at least 1/2 an hour before I get on & this week she was working on canter transitions from the walk,1/2 strides to extentions in the trot ,leg yeilds etc...not easy or slow stuff It's just that Amigo is mentally comfortable there & doesn't need to be "on guard" like he is out on the trail. He works really hard during his lessons. Our trail work is phyically easier but more stressful cause we are alone often...but he's improving for sure.

I did not think your arena work was easy by any means but relaxing mentally for Amigo as he knows what is around every corner, it is his comfort zone. It is my most fearful place with Fantasy because she grew so arena sour. Our comfort zone is out on the trail.

Taking a break from cleaning tack for next week's show.My trainer will ride Amigo for his first ever dressage show. He's never even done a test though he'll probably practice some on Friday .He'll just do a Training Level test though he's schooling at second level. He's never been shown & there'll be a lot of hub-bub so we just want him to get his hooves wet.It is a CDS recognised event & Ronni will be showing her Hannovarian in a couple of 4th level tests also.He was a brat on the trail today but finally settled & did about 5 miles. I'm excited to show him off...hope he behaves himself !!

Amigo won his class today. He was amazing.Star of the show with a score of 68.26 at Training Level 1.He looked like he'd been doing this his whole life instead of first time ever.I only took a couple of pix & videoed the test which,on dial-up,will take me forever to download..but will do tomorrow.
